Creating a RAP case
The Recovery Assistance Program (RAP) provides material aid to people recovering from gambling addiction or to people affected by the gambling addiction of another.
Refer to the Gambler’s Help Program Guidelines for full details on RAP rules on eligibility and payment categories.
The RAP case differs from other case types:
*You can’t create a standalone RAP case, it is always linked to a specific therapeutic or financial counselling case.
*It defaults to completed status – you can’t keep a RAP case open; while you can process a series of payments in a single case, you always process a new RAP payment in a new case – that is, you can’t open an old case to record a new payment.
*While associated with a specific therapeutic or financial counselling case, the RAP payment history displays on the client record meaning that all RAP payments to a client in a given year can be viewed across all agencies irrespective of the agency where a particular payment was processed.

RAP eligibility rules or payment thresholds are NOT built in to Gambler’s Help Connect. You must bring your knowledge of these with you when you process RAP cases.
RAP payment categories specify that some payments can be made by a therapeutic counsellor alone and some payments require a financial assessment by a financial counsellor. This doesn’t mean that the client must have a financial counselling case to receive these payments; a financial counsellor can be a party to a RAP case linked to a therapeutic counselling case and conduct the financial assessment prior to approving a payment. The decision about whether the client should have a separate financial counselling case is determined by policies and the judgement of the local service.
